FAQs on Us

What is Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA)?

ABA is a type of therapy based on the science of learning and behavior. Its goal is to apply our understanding of how behavior works in real-world situations to help people learn new, useful skills and reduce behaviors that may be harmful or interfere with their learning.

How does ABA therapy work?

ABA uses a data-driven, structured approach. We design a customized treatment plan based on the individual's needs. The plan breaks down complex skills into small, manageable steps. By using positive reinforcement, the individual is encouraged to learn new behaviors and skills. A key concept is the "ABC" model: Antecedent (what happens before a behavior), Behavior (the action or response), and Consequence (what happens after the behavior). This helps therapists and families understand what is triggering a behavior and how to reinforce a desired outcome.

What skills can ABA help with?

ABA is effective for teaching a wide range of skills, including communication and language, social skills, self-care (like hygiene and toileting), play and leisure skills, and academic readiness.

FAQs for You

Do I have to be involved in the therapy?

Yes! Your involvement is crucial to your child's success. Your BCBA will work with you to provide training and help you learn how to use ABA strategies at home. This consistency helps generalize skills, meaning your child can use what they learn in therapy in other settings and with other people.

How will I be updated on my child's progress?

Progress is measured through data collection during each session. Your BCBA will regularly share progress reports with you, explain the data, and make any necessary adjustments to the treatment plan to ensure your child continues to meet their goals.

Is ABA a good fit for all ages?

Yes, ABA principles can be applied to people of all ages. While it is often used for early intervention with young children, it is also effective for school-age children, teens, and adults who want to work on specific goals, such as daily living or vocational skills.

What should I expect during the initial assessment?

During the initial assessment, a BCBA will meet with you and your child to evaluate your child's skills, behaviors, and needs. They will also talk with you about your family's goals to develop a customized and effective treatment plan
